The Lullaby Connection Offers Layette Packets to Babies in Need
With more than 3,400 babies born at Valley Hospital in 2004, the
odds are high that not every baby is discharged to a happy, loving
home with mommy and daddy. Sadly, some of our Valley babies end up
at Child Haven by the time they are four days old, or are discharged
in the care of another relative who may not be fully prepared for a
new baby.
Enter "The Lullaby Connection" (TLC), a unique non-profit
organization established in 2001 because "everyone benefits from a
little TLC, especially babies."
TLC is dedicated to making sure every baby born in the Las Vegas
Valley begins their life with something new, warm and filled with
love. In February 2005, they began delivering layette packets to
Valley Hospital's newborn nursery. Each infant packet features new
blankets, gowns, booties, hats, diapers and other essential items.
"These are absolutely wonderful," said Mary Lou Haslach-LaGrutta,
Nursery Manager. "It's heartbreaking, knowing these babies are going
to Child Haven, or when parents ask for an extra t-shirt or blanket.
You can tell every layette is made with love - everything is
color-coordinated from the outfit to the booties to the hat and
blanket."
The organization also provides burial outfits for perinatal loss
situations; collects and donates books to local agencies; and
creates hygiene kits filled with travel sized necessities that are
distributed throughout Clark County.
Currently, TLC offers their support to Safe House, Child Haven,
Bunkers Mortuary, Sunrise Children's Hospital, Clark County Health
District, Family to Family Connection and Spread the Word Nevada,
Inc.
